Senior AI Engineer / Technical Lead - AA, Remote: Colombia - Costa Rica, Fulltime

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior AI Engineer / AI Technical Lead to help
establish and expand our AI engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical expert with experience designing and building AI solutions from the ground up, rather than simply developing features within an existing AI infrastructure.

This role requires strong technical ownership, independent problem-solving, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, startup-like environment where processes and technical foundations are still evolving. The selected candidate will play a key role in establishing AI infrastructure, implementing AI pipelines, and transferring knowledge to the existing engineering team.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and implement AI pipelines and supporting infrastructure.
• Build and configure Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines.
• Design and establish the foundational frameworks and harnesses required to support AI development.
• Make technical decisions regarding AI architecture, implementation approaches, and tooling.
• Investigate and troubleshoot complex technical challenges independently.
• Establish technical foundations and best practices for ongoing AI development.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities into existing or emerging solutions.
• Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfer, and upskilling to the internal team.
• Contribute to AI testing and validation approaches when aligned with the candidate's expertise.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing AI-based solutions.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience using .NET or Java is a must. 
  
• Demonstrated experience building AI pipelines and supporting infrastructure.
• Solid understanding of AI architectures and implementation practices.
• Experience designing and implementing foundational technical frameworks.
• Ability to evaluate technical approaches and explain architectural decisions.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience working on projects where technical foundations needed to be established from scratch.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing and implementing RAG pipelines.
• Experience establishing AI development frameworks or harnesses.
• Experience mentoring engineers and transferring technical knowledge.
• Familiarity with AI testing and validation methodologies.
• Previous involvement in Greenfield AI initiatives or early-stage technical environments.
