Ghost job checker
Some job listings stay online long after the role is filled, or were never really open. Paste a job link and we’ll tell you whether it’s still open at the employer, how long it has been listed, and whether it keeps getting reposted.

What is a ghost job?
A ghost job is a listing that stays up even though nobody is being hired for it right now. The role may already be filled, put on hold, or posted only to collect resumes for later. For job seekers it means hours spent on applications that never get a reply.
It is rarely a scam. More often it is an old copy on a job site, a role paused after a budget change, or a listing nobody remembered to take down. That is why the most useful question is simple: is this job still open where the employer manages it?
How the checker works
- 1. We check employers directly. Remotavia reads thousands of companies’ own job boards every few hours.
- 2. We record every change. When a job appears, changes, disappears or comes back, we note the date. That’s how we can show reposts and age.
- 3. We only call a job closed with proof. A job is marked closed after it is missing from the employer’s board in two checks in a row, never on a single failed request.
Warning signs to look for
Listed for months
Most roles fill within one to three months. A listing older than that is often on hold or already filled.
Reposted again and again
The same role closing and reopening every few weeks can mean the listing stays up whether or not anyone is hiring.
Missing from the company’s own careers page
If a job board shows it but the employer’s site doesn’t, the job board copy may be out of date.
Vague role, no salary, no team
Real openings usually name the team, the work and a pay range. Very generic listings are more often for “pipeline” hiring.
“Always accepting applications”
Some companies say it openly: they collect resumes for future roles rather than hiring for this one now.
No reply, ever
If several people report applying with no response at all, treat the listing with care.

Tips for better results
Tip 1
Prefer the employer’s own link
Links from a company’s Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby page give the most reliable answer, because that is where jobs are opened and closed.
Tip 2
Old isn’t always fake
Senior and specialist roles can stay open for months. Treat age as a reason to ask, not a reason to skip.
Tip 3
Ask the recruiter directly
A short “Is this role still actively hiring?” message is normal and often gets you a faster reply than the application form.
Questions people ask
What is a ghost job?
A ghost job is a listing that stays online even though nobody is being hired for it: the role was filled, paused or never really open. Applying to one costs you time and gets no reply.
How does the checker know if a job is open?
Remotavia checks thousands of employers’ own job boards every few hours. When a job disappears from the employer’s board in two scans in a row, we mark it closed. For listings we only know through job sites, we show when the job was last seen.
Which links can I check?
Any Remotavia job link, and links to jobs on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, Recruitee, SmartRecruiters, BambooHR, Breezy, Himalayas, Jobicy and Remotive, as long as we track that employer or listing.
Is a reposted job a red flag?
Not always. Some companies repost to refresh a listing or because a hire fell through. Several reposts of the same role in a short time is worth asking about.
