How to convert hourly pay to salary
Yearly salary = hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks per year. For a standard full-time job that is the hourly rate × 2,080. So $25 an hour is $52,000 a year, and $50 an hour is $104,000.
To go the other way, divide the salary by 2,080. A $70,000 salary works out to about $33.65 an hour.
Change the hours or weeks when they differ. A 37.5-hour week, a four-day week or unpaid weeks off all lower the yearly total from the same hourly rate.
Hourly pay in remote jobs
Most remote jobs state pay as a yearly salary, but contract, part-time and support roles are often paid by the hour. Across 1,118 open remote jobs on Remotavia that state an hourly rate in USD, the typical (median) midpoint is $26.00 an hour.
If you are comparing a contract rate with a salaried job, remember that contractors usually pay for their own holidays, equipment and benefits. Our salary tools include a contractor-versus-employee comparison.

Tips for better results
Tip 1
Use your real hours
A 37.5-hour week or six weeks off changes the result more than people expect. Set both to match the offer.
Tip 2
Contractors should add a margin
As a contractor you cover your own holidays, equipment and taxes. Many add 25–40% to the employee-equivalent rate.
Tip 3
Compare in one currency
When offers come in different currencies, convert both to one before comparing. Our salary tools can help.
