About the role

Correlation One is the largest provider of AI and data workforce development programs globally, having trained over 500,000 professionals across 11 countries. As the largest training provider for Amazon Career Choice, and a growing partner to governments and international development organizations, Correlation One sits at the intersection of employer talent needs and scalable workforce training.

We work with Fortune 500 enterprises, government agencies and leading employers to close skills gaps in AI, data analytics, cybersecurity and operations leadership. Our programs produce job-ready graduates who are prepared to contribute from day one.

About the program

We are proactively hiring Lead Instructors for the Data Annotation track of a new, fully virtual training-to-jobs program for young people in Somalia. The program prepares learners for remote and online work with employers worldwide, including data annotator, data labeler, AI data quality and AI output evaluation roles.

Learners will build practical skills in labeling and evaluating text, audio, image and video data used to train AI systems, and will finish with portfolio projects they can show to employers.

Schedule and cohort size: We are finalizing the program dates, lecture days and times, and cohort size, and will share them with shortlisted candidates before any commitment is made. Live lectures will be scheduled during East Africa Time (EAT) hours, so please tell us your general availability when you apply.

Your impact

Lead Instructors deliver high-quality, live, virtual instruction and partner with Correlation One staff to drive learning and employment outcomes. You will teach the Data Annotation core curriculum to a cohort of learners, many of whom are using professional tools for the first time, and help them build the skills and confidence to compete for remote AI data jobs.

Virtual classroom leadership

  • Prepare and lead live virtual lectures and hands-on demonstrations using curriculum provided by Correlation One.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with learners in both English and Somali.
  • Walk learners step by step through real annotation tasks, from reading the guidelines to labeling, checking quality and fixing errors.
  • Manage class time Q&A, monitor the chat and keep energy and engagement high.
  • Bring real-world examples from your industry experience, including how employers assign, review and measure the quality of remote annotation work.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Correlation One operations team and the Teaching Assistants on the Data Annotation track.
  • Meet with the Correlation One team ahead of lectures, and attend a short weekly check-in.
  • Help shape learners' portfolio projects so they reflect the work entry-level annotators and AI data associates actually do.
  • Contribute to lesson design and improvement.

Expectations

  • Professionalism: Interact with learners, staff, other contractors and guest speakers with courtesy and respect.
  • Lecture preparation: Submit lecture plans for review 10 days in advance and meet with the Correlation One team to review them.
  • Responsiveness and empathy: Adjust pace and presentation for learners with very different starting points, while delivering the prepared content on time.
  • Communication: Communicate respectfully, keeping in mind that written messages can lack tone, and keep Correlation One staff informed.
  • Course improvement: Apply learner feedback from the early, mid-program and exit surveys, and share thoughtful feedback with the Correlation One team.

Your expertise (requirements)

  • Professional working proficiency in both Somali and English, spoken and written, with the ability to teach technical content in both.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data annotation, data labeling, AI training data, data quality or machine learning operations, including team lead, reviewer or quality assurance responsibility.
  • A degree in a relevant field (such as computer science, information systems, linguistics or data science) or equivalent industry experience.
  • Expertise in, and the ability to teach:
  • Multimodal data labeling: text, speech and audio, image and video
  • Annotation guidelines: interpreting, applying and improving labeling instructions
  • Dialogue and AI output evaluation: rating and comparing AI responses and writing clear human feedback
  • Quality and process improvement: quality checks, accuracy and consistency metrics, and root cause analysis of labeling errors
  • Confidential and secure data handling
  • AI fundamentals: how labeled data is used to train AI, including machine learning, generative AI and responsible AI basics
  • Hands-on experience with annotation and labeling platforms.
  • Teaching or training experience with adult learners, ideally in a remote setting and with beginners.
  • An excellent educator with energy, patience and the ability to make complex topics accessible.
  • Comfortable with Zoom, Pumble or Slack and online learning platforms.

Preferred

  • AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) or an equivalent AI certification.
  • Arabic proficiency, and familiarity with Maay as well as standard Somali.
  • Familiarity with the Somali context, including how young people in Somalia access education, connectivity and remote work.
  • Experience working in, or hiring for, remote or freelance annotation and AI data roles.

Where you are

  • This role is remote and open to candidates anywhere, provided you can reliably teach during EAT program hours.

Compensation

  • The compensation for this position is specific to location and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. These factors include (but are not limited to) location, experience, education and skill sets.
