Job Description
DC Builders & Sitara Homes | Portland Metro Area
Full-time
Role Summary:
The Assistant Site Superintendent works directly alongside the Site Superintendent to coordinate daily field activities on custom homes and residential construction projects. This hands-on role supports subcontractor coordination, scheduling, deliveries, inspections, jobsite safety, and quality control from site preparation through homeowner turnover.
Working with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager, and Project Engineer, you will help keep work organized, identify field issues, and follow through on daily priorities. While the Project Engineer coordinates project information, approvals, and procurement tracking, the Assistant Site Superintendent focuses on execution in the field.
This position is ideal for someone with residential construction experience who wants to develop the leadership and technical skills needed to become a Site Superintendent.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the Site Superintendent in coordinating daily construction activities and communicating priorities to subcontractors and field crews.
- Help maintain daily and weekly work plans, confirm trade readiness, and follow up on scheduling commitments.
- Review drawings, specifications, and approved selections to understand installation requirements and upcoming work.
- Walk the jobsite regularly to monitor progress, identify deficiencies, and communicate issues to the Site Superintendent.
- Assist with field measurements, layout verification, and checks of existing conditions before fabrication or installation.
- Receive material deliveries, verify quantities and visible condition, and coordinate staging and protection.
- Communicate material shortages, damaged products, and upcoming delivery needs to the Site Superintendent and Project Engineer.
- Help coordinate inspections, prepare work areas for inspector access, and track correction items.
- Support quality checks throughout construction, including framing, waterproofing, exterior finishes, and interior finish work.
- Document field questions and drawing conflicts, and coordinate with the Project Engineer to obtain clarification.
- Help communicate approved drawing revisions and field instructions to affected subcontractors.
- Maintain daily reports, progress photographs, delivery records, and documentation of significant jobsite activities.
- Support jobsite safety by identifying hazards, maintaining clear access, and reporting unsafe conditions promptly.
- Maintain site organization, cleanliness, material storage, and protection of completed work.
- Assist with site logistics, including delivery access, equipment placement, temporary protection, and trade work areas.
- Perform minor carpentry, temporary protection, and punch-list work as needed and within your capabilities.
- Track subcontractor corrections and punch-list items through completion.
- Support final inspections, cleaning, and preparation for homeowner turnover.
- Escalate potential delays, quality concerns, scope changes, and unforeseen conditions to the Site Superintendent before affected work proceeds.
- Help maintain professional, respectful relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and neighboring property owners.
Requirements:
- Two or more years of hands-on residential construction experience preferred.
- Framing, carpentry, or other relevant trade experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with custom homes or high-end residential construction is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
- Ability to read construction drawings and follow specifications and installation details.
- Strong attention to detail and an appreciation for quality craftsmanship.
- Dependable, organized, and willing to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly, follow up with subcontractors, and address issues professionally.
- Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and grow into greater field leadership responsibility.
- Comfort using a smartphone, tablet, or computer for drawings, daily reports, photographs, and project communication.
- Familiarity with Buildertrend or similar construction management software is a plus.
- Commitment to safe work practices; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 training is advantageous.
- Ability to work primarily onsite, navigate active construction areas, and perform assigned field tasks with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to assigned jobsites.
- Willingness to accommodate occasional early starts or irregular hours based on project needs.
- A college degree is not required; practical construction experience and demonstrated initiative are valued.
