Senior AL Developer for Business Central

The role 

As a Senior AL Developer, you will play a key role in the continued development and evolution of Sedona Digital’s Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central environment. 

You will take ownership of Business Central development, designing and delivering new functionality, enhancing existing solutions, building integrations, and ensuring our Business Central applications remain scalable, reliable, and aligned with the evolving needs of the business. 

This is a hands-on development role for someone with deep Business Central expertise who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and taking ownership of solutions from requirement through to implementation. 

You will work primarily with Application Language (AL), the modern, strongly typed programming language designed specifically for developing extensions and functionality within Business Central. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Business Central solutions and extensions using AL. 
• Build new functionality and continuously enhance existing Business Central applications based on internal business needs. 
• Develop and maintain tables, table extensions, pages, page extensions, codeunits, reports, queries, APIs, and other AL objects. 
• Translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions within Business Central. 
• Design and maintain integrations between Business Central and other systems, applications, and services using APIs and web services. 
• Develop automation and improve existing business processes and workflows within Business Central. 
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, and optimize solution performance and reliability. 
• Manage and support the technical lifecycle of Business Central solutions, including development, testing, releases, upgrades, and deployments. 
• Ensure developments follow Microsoft Business Central and AL development best practices, including clean code, extension-based architecture, documentation, and source control. 
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to continuously identify opportunities to improve and expand our Business Central capabilities. 
• Help define technical standards and contribute to the long-term evolution of our Business Central environment. 

What You Bring 

• 10+ years of Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Dynamics 365 Business Central development experience, with strong recent hands-on Business Central experience. 
• Strong expertise in Application Language (AL) and the development of Business Central extensions. 
• Strong understanding of Business Central architecture, application objects, data structures, extension model, and development lifecycle. 
• Hands-on experience developing tables, pages, codeunits, reports, queries, APIs, and extensions. 
• Experience designing and implementing integrations between Business Central and external applications or services, using REST APIs, web services, JSON, or similar technologies. 
• Strong experience with Visual Studio Code and AL development tooling, including debugging and troubleshooting. 
• Experience with Git-based source control and CI/CD, ideally using Azure DevOps or GitHub. 
• Experience with Business Central upgrades, version management, and extension maintenance. 
• Good understanding of software engineering principles, including clean code, testing, maintainability, performance, and documentation. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions. 
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of development activities, and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
