About the role

New Zealand or Australia | Remote, or from our Wellington HQ  🌍

About Optimal

Optimal is a comprehensive user insight platform empowering product teams and UX researchers to make confident, data-driven decisions.

Our platform helps customers understand how people interact with their digital experiences, uncovering the "why" behind user behaviour so they can build products that truly connect with their audience.

We work with industry leaders like LEGO, Nike, Netflix and Apple to bridge the gap between user expectations and product reality.

The role

We're looking for an Associate Product Manager to join our Product team and help us build better experiences for our customers.

Working closely with our Product Manager and teams across Engineering, Design, and Revenue, you'll help take product ideas from discovery through to delivery. You'll get involved in understanding customer problems, exploring opportunities, defining requirements and supporting launches, while learning how to make informed product decisions and gradually taking ownership of features and projects.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is curious about how products are built, enjoys solving problems and wants to grow their product management skills in a growing SaaS business.

What you'll do:

  • Understand our customers: Build relationships with users, gather feedback with our Sales and Customer Success teams, and develop a strong understanding of their needs and pain points.
  • Explore product opportunities: Get involved in product discovery, market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and help inform product plans and roadmap decisions.
  • Help shape and deliver features: Work with our Product Manager, Design and Engineering teams to define product requirements, create user stories, flag potential improvements and defects, and support features from concept through to launch.
  • Support teams: Help communicate roadmap updates, support product launches and help create sales enablement materials.
  • Learn from what we build: Monitor product metrics, feature adoption and customer feedback to understand how our product is performing and identify opportunities to make it better.
  • Learn from real-world usage: Monitor product metrics, feature adoption and customer feedback to understand what's working, identify opportunities for improvement and help us keep making our product better.
  • Take ownership and keep things moving: Manage defined features or projects with support from the Product Manager, proactively raise issues and help the team move from ideas to outcomes.

What we're looking for:

  • A curious, proactive mindset and an interest in building great products.
  • A customer-centric approach and ability to understand customer needs and translate them into product features.
  • A developing understanding of commercial drivers and market competition.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with an ability to turn information into useful insights.
  • Clear communication skills and an enjoyment of working collaboratively across teams.
  • An adaptable approach and willingness to learn, take initiative and work through ambiguity.
  • 0–2 years' experience in product management or product-adjacent roles, or SaaS/tech products (relevant internship experience is welcome)

What's in it for you?

  • Competitive salary that reflects your skills and experience, plus the opportunity to join our Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP) and share in the long-term success of the company.
  • Annual wellbeing allowance and support.
  • Generous annual learning and development support.
  • Home office set-up support.
  • Four weeks' annual leave, plus an additional day off on your birthday.
  • Opportunities to learn, develop and grow your career.
  • Flexible, remote-first working, with the option to work from our Wellington HQ if you're based nearby.

Life at Optimal

Our values shape how we work together and the decisions we make.

  • Live in our customers' shoes: We understand our customers, listen to their needs and focus on adding value.
  • Own it: We show curiosity, take accountability and get things moving.
  • Bold & Brave: We challenge ourselves, embrace change and keep learning.
  • In it together: We treat each other with kindness and respect, challenge with care and celebrate our wins.

If you're excited about understanding customers, building great products and growing your career in product management, we'd love to hear from you. We'll be interviewing as applications come in.
